Automating Social Media with IFTTT

You can have a beautiful social strategy on paper, but if you're not committed to the daily tasks, it counts for nothing. That's the awful truth about social media: it requires daily nurturing and careful execution to achieve the brand growth everyone wants.

IFTTT is an automation tool that you can use in many aspects of your life, but for a content marketer, it can be an irreplaceable tool. Unlike scheduling sites, IFTTT uses triggers to create an action across social platforms.

For example, if Let's Talk posts a new video to YouTube, then it will also be posted to Tumblr.

While YouTube offers the ability to share a video to Tumblr once it's posted, IFTTT will cut out the time spent clicking (and the mental space needed to remember to share it across platforms. If there's anything that a content marketer should know, it's that the less clicking involved, the better.

While you can sync between social media accounts, there's an added bonus to using IFTTT for automation. When you sync between Instagram and Twitter accounts, your synced posts will be the first 100 or so characters of your Instagram post and then a link to that Instagram post. This leads to more clicks before readers can get to your content.

But with IFTTT you can create a trigger to post to your Twitter feed with native images, meaning the photo will show up instead of a link. Less clicks, happier social media manager.

It's also perfect for archiving posts. You can set up new Twitter and Instagram posts to archive to Google Drive. Ever wanted to be able to look back on a list of your content without scrolling through your profile? Now you can, making recycling original content a breeze. You can also personalize the settings, if you want to keep track of mentions of your brand.

When you check out the discover feed for IFTTT, you'll see a bunch of useful tasks to set up. We've taken some time to share a few more that Let's Talk couldn't function without:
